STS A Word on Minimum Wage A Word on Minimum Wage

The government introduced the concept of minimum wage to ensure workers at the lower end of the income scale receive a fair deal from their employers. Due to the nature of much of the work done by students, they tend to fall into this category. You should be aware of your rights and rates under the legislation. From 2013 the rates are as follows;

If you are aged between 16 to 17 years the rate is £3.68 an hour.

If you are aged between 18 to 21 years the rate is £4.98 an hour.

If you are 22 or over, the rate is £6.19 an hour.

If you feel your employer is not complying with the law and you need further help then contact the Minimum Wage Helpline. Contact details are within links on our resources page »
