COFFEE REPUBLIC TO HOST

STUDENT TAX BACK WEEK

STUDENT TAX BACK WEEK is approaching, meaning students could retrieve hundreds, and possibly even thousands of pounds, which they often don't notice are missing. With the average reclaim being almost £1,000 per student , as calculated by a leading student tax agency, many students are already presenting an interest!

Quite often students are quite shocked to learn how much tax they have inadvertently overpaid to the treasury . The permissive combination of a lax understanding of the taxation procedure ( a problem by no means exclusive to students! ) and the erratic nature of student work patterns makes employed undergraduates an exceptionally vulnerable sector of the workforce. Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs tend to profit from this type of ‘bureaucratically created disadvantage'.

On the 23, 24 & 25 February 2009 Coffee Republic , North Finchley , will host a ‘student tax awareness clinic'. Students who attend will have the opportunity to obtain free, valuable, and most importantly jargon-free assessments. Professional tax advisors will be available everyday between 3pm-6pm to counsel students regarding their individual financial diagnosis on a 1 on 1 basis.

This unique service is brought to students by, Student Tax Services; experienced and time-established financial vanguards for undergraduates and graduates alike. Their website ‘www.studenttaxservices.org.uk' has proven exceptionally popular, offering students easy to understand taxation advice, an instant rebate calculator, tax prevention methods and an online help facility in the form of a virtual library and free online advice. Full or part-time students together with recent post graduates may register for free at any time.

Encompassing the expertise of Chartered Certified Accountants, providing technical input, they drop excessive terminology, and facilitate students in deciphering the apparent enigma of tax. The website, extremely user-friendly, coordinates its efforts and orientations toward the advantage of, what is identified by STS as, a drastically under protected group in the field of taxation.

Unies Mirza, Chartered Certified Accountant and tax specialist who helped develop the website, says “ In many instances we have spent more time obtaining a tax refund for a student than for a seasoned tax payer. This demonstrates how cumbersome the process can be ”.

The STS project was launched upon the foundations of the impracticality of the current administrative system. Certainly all of the information required for a student to claim back overpaid taxes is ‘openly available', but it is by no means centralised or easy to decode; STS accumulates and interprets everything for you. Users of the service have depicted government websites as comparatively perplexing and a severe waste of time to people with their own personal circumstances! By taking into account people's individual situations, STS help take the complexity out of the tax system and give students the confidence to take control of their own financial affairs.

Students and postgraduates wishing to understand the system, or indeed to have it understood for them, are advised to attend the upcoming event and consider the implications this could mean for them.

Tax advisors will offer free assistance to all students on a first come first serve basis to assess their eligibility for tax rebates and assistance in dealing with their tax affairs.

Coffee Republic will also be offering students a 10% discount on all hot drinks alongside a daily prize draw during the event, so there really is no excuse for students not take control of their tax!
